A 21-year-old man allegedly jumped into the Yamuna River from a bridge in southeast Delhi during a video call with his sister following an altercation, the police said on Monday.

According to a senior officer, the incident took place around 11:20 on Sunday night, when the victim, identified as Rithik, took the extreme step after an argument with his sister.

The police, along with rescue services, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officers, and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), were called to the spot.

An NDRF motorboat team began search operations within 20 minutes after he jumped; however, the victim remains untracked.

A senior officer mentioned in his statement, “We were informed after a PCR call was received at the Sunlight Colony Police Station, where the victim’s sister, Suman, claimed that her brother jumped off in the river during a video call with her.”

As per Suman’s statement, on the night the incident happened, Rithik had video-called her, and during their conversation, they got into a heated argument.

In a moment of frustration, he allegedly jumped off the bridge railing into the river, she mentioned in her statement.

The officer further stated that a missing person’s complaint was registered at the police station.

The search and rescue operation continued throughout the night and is ongoing by the team.
